SPECIAL REPORT: GOLF’S GREEN TEAMS (page 109)
In this month’s issue, Golf Digest revisits the impact of golf on the environment, this time focusing on chemical–free golf courses. Architecture Editor Ron Whitten spent some time at three such courses that practice “holistic golf–course maintenance” to get the scoop on how they operate. What he discovered will surely surprise you and make you wonder why the majority of courses have refused to say no to chemicals.
There’s no question that Golf Digest readers are passionate about their buddies’ trips. Check out some memorable stories, including a few by sportswriter Steve Rushin chronicling his family’s retreats (let’s just say that booze and a little violence are involved). Also, be sure to read David Owen’s “Buddies Trip Do’s and Don’ts“ to make sure you’re prepared for your next golf getaway.
ANTHONY KIM: THREE STEPS TO NAIL YOUR DRIVES (page 35)
Cover subject Anthony Kim provides some valuable tips to help you gain better control of the driver. In addition to mechanics, A.K. also says that hitting the gym with some regularity can make you a much more efficient player.
GOLF DIGEST U.S. OPEN CHALLENGE — YEAR TWO (page 122)
Yes, it’s that time again. Golf Digest is once again looking for an amateur player to join three celebrities to try to break 100 at Bethpage Black, the site of the 2009 U.S. Open. This year, however, the entry process is a bit more challenging: instead of writing a 100–word essay, contestants will need to do their convincing in just six words. More information about the Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge can be found at www.gdopencontest.com.
