GOLF DIGEST U.S. OPEN CHALLENGE
We’ve already heard our five finalists talk about their chances of breaking 100 at Torrey Pines, but how do the three celebrities feel? “I’ll be there for comic relief,” says Justin Timberlake. “I just hope Jessica Simpson doesn’t show up so Tony does well.”
We also want to know who you think will break 100. Vote now and predict which members of our U.S. Open Challenge foursome will shoot 99 or better.
THIS COULD GET UGLY (page 170)
Golf Digest editors asked more than 20 of the game’s top players to assess the likelihood of our amateur winner breaking 100. While each pro had a slightly different take on how the winner would fare, the underlying sentiment was unanimous (as summed up by Butch Harmon): “it’s going to be the greatest golf experience of his life…and he’ll be miserable every step of the way.”
HOW TO PLAY A REALLY HARD COURSE (page 184)
Knowing that our winner will be facing an uphill battle at Torrey Pines’ South Course, we asked Golf Digest 50 Greatest Teacher Dean Reinmuth to provide some tips that every golfer can use to play and conquer the toughest of courses. “Stay strong and positive,” encourages Dean, “and don’t let a bad break cause you to lose your composure.”
ALWAYS BY MY SIDE page 138
Golf Digest excerpts Jim Nantz’s newly released memoir about golf, life and lessons learned from his father’s battle with Alzheimer’s. From a memorable trip to Pebble Beach in 1990 to unforgettable moments with Jim’s college roommate and close friend, Fred Couples, the book remembers the good times as well as the tough ones. Listen to Jim reading from his new book.
